Abstract

The purpose of this article is to open up a discussion on the debate over racial theories in Brazil at the beginning of the twentieth century by contrasting Gilberto Freyre 's interpretation of the Brazilian way of playing football (which is Dyonisiac) with the European way (which is Apollinean), using Freyre' s own writings on this sport.
