The central objective of this article is to recognize and limit some generalities regarding port operations along the brazilian coast during
the 19th century. Keeping the local, regional and natural/historical specificities of each port, we weave some points of contact between the big national ports beyond the commercial and cultural exchange networks. In this work, we seek to trace common characteristics of brazilian ports in the tension between permanence and change, reproduction and improvement.
