In the face of the constant increase in health-care expenditure, partly as a result of permanent technological advances, social factors are nevertheless highlighted as being essential determining factors. Using new models, the health economy seeks to take such factors into account, helping to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, equitableness and quality of public health care.
