women students in medicine, causes, consequencesAbstract
The number of women students in medicine has increased significantly over recent decades. It is not easy to identify what has caused the trend towards more women in the profession. It may be the result of some falling off of male interest, the need for women to assert themselves, or the way university admissions are handled. The writer looks at these recent trends in the profession and puts forward possible interpretations, as well as outlining their causes and consequences.
