Abstract

The aim of this article is to present the sociodemographic profiles and relational spaces of contemporary Portuguese jazz musicians. To this end, we conducted and analyzed 45 semi-directive interviews with musicians and musicians from the field of jazz in Portugal. We intend to demonstrate the predominance of a strongly urban, educated and specialized artistic-relational profile, despite persisting professional instability, gender, ethnic and social class inequalities. We also show the primacy of secondary socializations in the constitution of the taste for jazz.
