Abstract

At the end of the Second World War, it became even more imperative that lasting peace be established between the European powers. Peace was to come about through the formation of a close union between the states. This article is based on the main politico-institutional elements that characterise this process. Therefore, the fundamental marks of the integration, deepening and widening of the Community are highlighted; the Single Act; the Maastricht Treaty and the formation of the European Union; the Treaty of Amsterdam.
