Abstract

The reference point for this article is standard modern families and infancy. The problem of child maltreatment is discussed and puts forward a typology for forms of abuse and negligence. These are characterised by internal consistency of signs associated with maltreatment and its relation to the social contexts of the family. The typology was built up as a result of empirical studies based on an enquiry to childhood professionals.
