Abstract

Environmental sociology emerges from various perspectives. Two contemporary views stand out. The first is that of the main defender of autonomy of the discipline by R. Dunlap and W. Catton. The second, which is more recent, takes the line of critical views on modern times in which authors such as A. Giddens and U. Beck are cited. The article is based around these two ideas and reference is made to three classic authors - E. Durkheim, K. Marx and M. Weber. Despite the anachronisms, a retrospection is sought in which the new ideas about environmental sociology take on relevance.
