This article proposes a sociological reading of the oeuvre of Soeiro Pereira Gomes, exploring three analytical angles: the role of education, urban transformations, and present and future perspectives. The study methodically examines the author’s work, integrating his perspective as a portrait of an era with contemporary insights to identify the bridges and transformations that have occurred since then. The work of Soeiro Pereira Gomes transcends the aesthetic field, serving as an instrument of criticism and social analysis. Since literature is also a tool for capturing the structural transformations and subjective impacts of modernity, the author embodies this role by documenting the lives of the most disadvantaged populations, analyzing the structural inequalities that shaped Portuguese cities at the time.
