The image of the political parties and democratic consolidation in Portugal - the survey's result

Abstract

Based on a poll carried out in 1985, the author of this paper analyses some preliminary results of a deep, wide study on Portuguese political culture. Focusing on the attitude towards the parties, the author emphasizes the following hypothesis: the citizens' image of political parties follows from their perspectives towards both politics and the regime itself during the process of democratic consolidation.
