Abstract

This article intends to be a first approach to the quantification of part-time agriculture in Portugal from the collected data for the continent. The double activity is assumed to be the determining factor of the existing part-time agriculture; a distinction is made between the double occupation of the exploitation holder and that of the other family members: a subsequent thourough study will lead to significant regional spacializations. If we get to the core of the different kinds of part-time agriculture in Portugal, we shall be contributing to the analysis of the underlying economical and social mechanisms of agriculture transformations under the impact of the recent industrialization and urbanization processes.
