After the publication of the global volume of definitive results of the General Population Census in 1981 it became possible to compare the new data on the total and active population with those used previously, namely those having been supplied by the Inquérito Permanente ao Emprego issued by the INE (IPE). This note establishes that kind of comparison, mainly observing two differences to be found in the female active peasant population: first, the male population is larger than the female one in the Census; secondly, according to the data of the Census, the active population presents a loss of about 300 000 people, as a result from the «disappearance» of an even larger number of active peasant women having no wage.
