Abstract

This article shows the framework where one can point out the activities the aim of which is innovation in the Portuguese transforming industry mainly in 1978. After analysing the used indicators one concludes that: a) the evolution of costs concerning the technology import will have a tendency to be quicker than the evolution of the expenses concerning research and development; b) the granting of the effort in research and development to the productive activities must be reconsidered in such a way that the above-mentioned tendency may be changed in a way or another as soon as possible; c) the effort in research and development to be made in the industrial enterprises implies the lowing of the opportunity cost concerning these activities at this moment; d) it is most important to know, as deeply as possible, either the profile or the impact that foreign technology produce in the Portuguese industrial structure.
