Portuguese workers and french syndicates, in the area of Paris : some data for the study of their relationships

Abstract

This article is the first, mainly descriptive part, of a study of wider scope. In its second part, an interpretation shall be attempted of the empirical conclusions of this first text. The theme is that of the relationships between Portuguese immigrants and french unions. The discriptive analysis presented here can be divided into two complementary perspectives: the attitudes of the emigrants towards french unions is examined first, as well as a certain number of objective situations and social practiques which make difficult the integration of emigrants within the french trade union system; are presented next some of the attitudes taken by french unions as an answer to the new problems brough about by the emigration of foreign workers, specially the Portuguese ones.
