Abstract

This article is a contribution to the study of the evolution of the industrial working class in Portugal, between 1940 and 1970. Considering as a working basis data, officially issued by the INE, the authors have then proceeded to the «re-elaboration», setting new groupments and trying to define those sets of social agents to be ranged in the process of production, as «productive workers», and thus to be considered in an analysis of the working population in terms of their class situation, at an exclusively economic level. Their evolution within the referred period an their distribution-concentration in Portuguese geographical area is next considered.
