Abstract

In anaesthesia practice the accidental administration of drugs, although less frequent thanks to a greater awareness and care by the anaesthesiologist, is a reality with potentially harmful or even fatal consequences.  We report two cases of accidental administration of intrathecal tranexamic acid, one patient proposed for orthopaedic surgery procedure and the other proposed for general surgery procedure, regarding clinical presentation and postoperative evolution. After analysis of the two clinical cases and review of other cases reported in the literature, it is recommended that, whatever the route of administration of a drug, with greater focus on administration of drugs to the neuroaxis, the anaesthesiologist should be judicious and check prior to administration.
