O Campeonato do Mundo de Futebol de 2010 na África do Sul: Uma análise política e económica

Resumo

Num mundo globalizado, organizar um megaevento desportivo representa para o país responsável uma oportunidade de visibilidade e promoção no estrangeiro. Para países emergentes, ganha ainda mais importância por permitir a sua integração junto dos países mais poderosos do sistema internacional. Para a África do Sul, organizar o Campeonato do Mundo de Futebol de 2010 permitiu-lhe utilizar o desporto como instrumento de afirmação e projeção de poder para o exterior. Tal materializar-se-ia pela maior atração de capitais e fluxos turísticos como consequência da organização desse megaevento. Contudo, os benefícios deste inovador instrumento de poder não são tão claros como previsto pelas teorias, dado que muitos indicadores relevantes cresceram em menor ritmo depois do Campeonato do Mundo de 2010.
