A Fronteira Moçambique-Zimbabué e os ndau: Práticas e representações transfronteiriças no distrito moçambicano de Mossurize (de 1975 à actualidade)

Resumo

As perspectivas sobre as fronteiras africanas, de um modo geral, assentam frequentemente nas afirmações de que as fronteiras são artificiais e arbitrárias. Contudo, este tipo de categorizações parece revelar um desconhecimento face às práticas e significados que as populações locais atribuem às fronteiras. O presente artigo procura contribuir para esta literatura, através de um estudo de caso no distrito de Mossurize, na fronteira entre Moçambique e o Zimbabué. Os dados empíricos originais procuram demonstrar como os grupos fronteiriços ndau percepcionam e se relacionam com a fronteira e com os membros do mesmo grupo étnico que vivem “do outro lado”, e como alterações de fundo na política económica de um dos Estados se repercute ao longo da fronteira porosa.
