About the Journal

Scope

The journal Cadernos de Estudos Africanos is a scientific and academic publication of the Centre for International Studies of the University Institute of Lisbon (CEI-Iscte) specializing in African themes. The articles, both based on fieldwork and theoretical elaboration, are guided by the significant contributions they make to studies on Africa and African diasporas. The journal is open to the national and international scientific community that studies the continent, particularly in the areas of Social Sciences and Humanities, focusing on internationalization and inter- and multidisciplinarity.

From November 1st, 2020, the journal will not accept single articles. All articles must be submitted within the framework of calls for themed issues, available on the journal's website

History of the journal

Cadernos de Estudos Africanos, created in July 2001, was the responsibility of the directorate of the Center for African Studies. The first issues were directed by Rui Mateus Pereira, and today they are a reference in the history of African Studies. In 2008, Ana Bénard da Costa's appointment as director of the journal marked a new phase for the publication. From the outset, she created specific thematic issues with dedicated calls for papers; she instituted a section of bibliographical reviews; she broadened the scope of the journal beyond the themes and areas dealt with by the researchers at the Center for African Studies. With the enlargement of the Center for African Studies in 2013, the Center for International Studies became the journal's editor. In 2016, the board and its editorial members underwent a change, with Clara Caravalho as director. For more information see: http://cea.revues.org/1773
