This article aims to contribute to an in-depth understanding of the maternal and child health situation in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau (RGB), addressing maternal mortality, stillbirth and other challenges faced by women and children in the context of human rights and sexual and reproductive health. The study examines progress and gaps in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 5, on health and well-being, and on gender equality. The article uses a qualitative methodology and is based on semi-structured interviews with fourteen women with young children, living in the city of Bissau. These descriptions are complemented by field observation data and illustrate official maternal and child health indicators collected through documentary research. We conclude that the promotion of Health and Well-being (SDG 3) and Gender Equality (SDG 5) in Guinea-Bissau is a multifaceted process, still marked by inequalities, cultural challenges and institutional weaknesses.
