Abstract

Using the resolution applied to Banco Espírito Santo as an example, we suggest a short consideration of legal, regulatory and political aspects in relation to banking failure. We conclude that if the legal, regulatory and political dimensions are ignored, banking resolutions could increase transaction costs more generally than otherwise.
