Abstract

The article presents an action-research project developed within the Master's in English Language Teaching in Primary Education. Its main objective was to promote citizenship skills through an approach focused on interculturality. The study aimed to develop children's critical thinking towards different cultures and traditions, sparking their interest in other cultural realities and fostering attitudes of respect for diversity. The intervention unfolded across three sequential phases: context observation, implementation of activities aimed at developing citizenship with a focus on interculturality, and an evaluation of their impact on children. Through
activities that promoted the interpretation of cultural diversity and intercultural relationships, complemented by self-regulation questionnaires, we sought to tailor the activities to the students' interests while assessing the development of their critical thinking. The results demonstrated a growing interest in different cultures and a significant strengthening of critical thinking, self-reflection, and cooperation skills among the students. The project thus confirms the pedagogical value of the intercultural approach and action research in developing citizenship skills in primary education contexts, highlighting the importance of strategies that combine
language learning with citizenship education.
