The main dysfunctions caused by multiple sclerosis have their origin in muscle weakness, giving rise to autonomy difficulties and, therefore, causing anxiety and depression. The objective of this research is to know the relationship that exists between the strength of the lower limbs and the musculature of the lower limbs and trunk, with respect to anxiety and depression in patients with this disease. To do this, body composition was analysed and strength in the lower limbs was measured, as well as questionnaires were administered to assess the levels of anxiety and depression in these subjects. It was observed that the strength levels of the lower limbs, in this case hip strength, are inversely related to anxiety, as is trunk musculature with depression. In conclusion, we can say that this pilot study gives us indications that higher levels of strength and muscle mass in the lower limbs and trunk can show a reduction in anxiety and depression levels.
