Active videogame as a physical education professional's strategy for cancer treatment in children and adolescents

The study sought to know and analyze the perception of children and adolescents about the use of active video game as a strategy of the physical education professional to assist in coping with the hospitalization period of children and adolescents for cancer treatment. This is an action research involving 14 patients with a mean age of 11.21 years, hospitalized at the Hospital Center for Pediatric Oncohematology of the Oswaldo Cruz University Hospital in Recife, Pernambuco. We used the semi-structured interview, the participant observation and the field diary for data collection. We used the X-Box 360 with Kinect and sports and dance games. The results indicated the acceptance of the group of patients in relation to the games of the active videogame, configuring it in a possible strategy of the professional of physical education to assist in the confrontation of the period of hospitalization for cancer treatment.
