Abstract

Introduction

The need to implement quality systems is now formally taken over either by international organizations or by national organizations. Because of their number and especially the role they play, from direct care to the management of services, it is recognized that nurses have a key role in the promotion and maintenance of health quality standards.

Specifically, it is required to the Specialist Nurse in Rehabilitation Nursing the development of specialized care plans with clients in order to improve the function, promote independence and maximum satisfaction of the person, and thus preserve the self-esteem (Portuguese Order of Nurses, 2011).

Objectives

To analyze reflectively the specific functional content of Specialist Nurses in Rehabilitation Nursing.

Methods

Document analysis of the specific functional content of Specialist Nurses in Rehabilitation Nursing, created by the Portuguese Order of Nurses.

Results

Considering the person holistically and using the most varied techniques, Specialist Nurses in Rehabilitation Nursing intervene in order to maximize the person’s functionality with the purpose of increase their levels of autonomy. It also develops, along with the client, functional re-education processes aiming the quality of life and the reintegration and participation in society.

Conclusions

Rehabilitation nursing plays an important role in promoting quality of nursing care standards that increase the autonomy and clients quality of life as a priceless value.
