Eficacia de la Rehabilitación Pélvica en la Persona con Incontinencia Fecal tras cirugía colorrectal

Introducción: La incontinencia fecal (IF) tiene efectos deletéreos en los pacientes, resultando en malestar, ansiedad, vergüenza y cambios profundos en su calidad de vida. Existe evidencia tenue de que estos efectos pueden mitigarse con la implementación de programas de rehabilitación pélvica.
Objetivo: : Evaluar la efectividad de implementar programas de rehabilitación pélvica en personas con incontinencia fecal posterior a cirugía colorrectal.
Métodos: Se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura. La selección de artículos científicos se realizó mediante la plataforma informática EBSCOhost, utilizando las bases de datos: PubMed, CINAHL, MedicLatina, Complementary Index y ScienceDirect, con fecha de publicación entre 2008-2019. Los estudios fueron analizados y evaluados críticamente por dos revisores de forma independiente, respetando los criterios de inclusión y exclusión previamente establecidos, siendo el corpus del estudio constituido por 4 artículos, de calidad metodológica comprobada.
Resultados: Se encontró que existen mejoras significativas en la reducción de la incontinencia fecal luego de la implementación de programas de rehabilitación pélvica. El biofeedback demostró ser un método muy seguro y efectivo en el tratamiento de pacientes con esta patología. La evidencia también apunta a tratamientos no farmacológicos que incluyen programas de biorretroalimentación, combinados con entrenamiento muscular del piso pélvico y electroestimulación anal (programas multimodales) relevantes para mejorar la IF.
Conclusión: Sí existe efectividad en los programas de rehabilitación pélvica para personas con incontinencia fecal después de cirugía colorrectal, con énfasis en el uso de biorretroalimentación y programas multimodales. También existe la necesidad de que las enfermeras de rehabilitación desarrollen programas de intervención estructurados que optimicen la calidad de vida de estos pacientes.
