This text discusses the results of a study that aimed to analyse the conceptions of primary school
teachers on what defines a good student, based on the current context of pressure for results. Through content analysis of interviews conducted with three teachers from different geographical and social contexts, in the school years 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19, it is demonstrated how their conceptions reveal discourses and expectations regarding academic excellence that are more or less permeable to the ideology of performativity and seem to depend on the socio-cultural and economic characteristics of their students.
