Territorial governance and sustainable development in peripherical regions: Economic and institutional challenges

Esta investigação visa investigar como a governação territorial pode induzir o desenvolvimento sustentável, tendo em conta o desafio do crescimento inteligente e da criação de emprego duradouro, a descarbonização da economia e a valorização turística dos activos intangíveis incorporados num determinado território. Ao analisar casos regionais de gestão sustentável (a rota do vinho do Tejo e o aproveitamento hidrográfico do Vale do Sorraia), através da revisão bibliográfica e observação directa, defendemos que as instituições ibéricas de educação em parceria com pólos científicos e tecnológicos desempenham um papel estratégico para fomentar o progresso no conhecimento científico sobre soluções eficazes contra as alterações climáticas, incluindo os sectores globais da actividade económica. Além disso, estas instituições são também cruciais para divulgar técnicas de produção mais amigas do ambiente por parte das empresas (particularmente em micro e pequenas empresas) e das organizações da economia social. O ponto principal é que só um processo transparente de negociação aberto a todos os interessados - através da criatividade, empreendedorismo, espírito de cidadania e solidariedade intergeracional - pode levar à maximização da qualidade de vida das pessoas que vivem nesta parte do território ibérico.
