The aim of the present study was to compare the relationship between body composition and physical abilities in basketball players of 12-13 and 14-15 years of age. The study involved 24 basketball players from a team from Setúbal Peninsula, twelve belonging to each age group. They performed evaluations related to body composition and strength of the lower and upper limbs. Correlations between body composition and manual grip strength and an inverse relationship between groups between manual grip strength and countermovement jump were observed. Muscle mass, evidenced a close relationship with manual grip strength in both age groups. It is fundamental to promote evaluation and control of training in the most varied age groups in basketball in order to detect talent, improve training prescription and be sought to improve sports performance.
