When the Portuguese Court sailed to Rio de Janeiro flying from the French army, the library of the Academy of Coast Guards was taken to that capital, then the siege of themonarchy. After the organization of the books in a new space, a catalog was prepared to help the search by the students. The analysis of this catalog allow us to evaluate the up-to-date nature of the library, and also to know that some documents pertaining to the Royal Maritme Society created by D. Rodrigo de Sousa Coutinho were kept there.
