About the Journal
Scope
Anais de História de Além-Mar (AHAM) (Annals of Overseas History) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by CHAM – Centre for the Humanities, an inter-university research unit of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities of NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA FCSH) and of the University of the Azores (UAc), referenced and indexed in international data bases.
The journal's main objective is to publish original and relevant academic works about the Portuguese overseas expansion, from the outset of the first "great navigations" (15th century) to the end of the “Overseas Empire” (20th century). The historical framework, and the comparison of parallel phenomena and articulations between the history and societies of the spaces involved should also be contemplated in these works.
Although most of the articles published focus on the Portuguese reality, the AHAM is open to articles about other regions, especially if they offer innovative visions from a comparative and analytical perspective.

Authors retain copyright and grant the free and exclusive transfer of the right of first publication of their articles to CHAM – Centre for the Humanities (Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa), reserving CHAM the right to reproduce and publish it in paper and/or digital format and to distribute and promote it by all normal means at its disposal.

Self-Archiving Policy
Authors can deposit in any repository or website, without embargo period, the Final Version of the Editor - also known as the Version of Record (VoR) -, in PDF, which will be made available to them. It is not allowed to deposit the Author's Original Manuscript (preprint) nor the Accepted Author Manuscript (postprint).

Publication fees
Submission of papers is free of charge. There are no charges associated with the processing or publication of articles.
ORCID Unique Identifier
All authors must provide their ORCID iD at submission. ORCID provides a persistent digital identifier (an ORCID iD) that authors own and control, and that distinguishes them from every other researcher.

History of the Journal
The Anais de História de Além-Mar was founded in 2000 by Artur Teodoro de Matos. Between 2003 and 2019, the journal was directed by João Paulo Oliveira e Costa.
