This article explains, firstly, how the environmental psychologists introduced the category of the landscape as a constituent element of the social identity. From this consideration, we analyze the arguments about the landscape provided by the municipal councils cameras in the territorial reform process that is intended to implement in the late eighteenth century in Portugal. These arguments, when they are observed under the keys of this theory – where the psychosocial processes of categorization, comparison and identification play a fundamental role – acquire new meaning, much more relevant and inspiring.
