Contribuição para uma demografia do Estado do Grão‑Pará e Maranhão, 1774–1821

Abstract

This essay aims to analyse the demography of Estado do Gr.o‑Par. e Maranhão, from 1774 till 1821. It is based on several census requested by the Portuguese Crown, which are mostly unpublished. They present the evolution of the population from the captaincies of Pará, Maranhão e Rio Negro. Through the comparative observation of the data, we aim to study, among other aspects, the social composition, the sex ration and the age structures of this population on several years. We will give a new perspective to the studies about the local dynamic of the population.
