This study seeks to understand the role of marriage policy in the context of relations between Portugal and France during the reign of Francis I. For this, are analyzed several projects of marriages between members of the Portuguese and French royal houses during that period, all failed. For each of them, we seek to: assess the interests of the two crowns in its implementation; explain the reasons for its failure; know how the negotiations occurred; identify the agents responsible for them.
