In this paper is made an attempt to collect critically the testimonies relating to the Japanese living in Luzon during the seventeenth century. The items studied are: the emigration of the Japanese to Manila; their demography; their settlements; their evangelization; their activities and professions, with special attention to the grocers; their military career in the Spanish army; the administration of the Japanese community and the tax system.
