In this article the authors study the political and governmental activity in the Philippines at the end of the sixteenth century starred by the governor Francisco Tello de Guzmán, and the importance that it had for his family. D. Francisco Tello de Guzmán was one of the main members of a sevillian lineage that was traditionally linked to the service of the Crown, but his final moments in the charge of Governor of the Philippines meant a hard challenge which he tried to use for recovering his political prestige and his economic position, severely damaged after his contradicted management in the Casa de la Contratación’s Treasury.
