The sinoportuguese textile manufacture and its history seem to be if not unknown at least ignored to most of the foreign researchers in Chinese textiles made for the European market. From the studies published, one gets the idea that only with the impulse of Englandand after the establishment of commercial relations between this country and China, European nations were able to contact and acquire Chinese products in great quantity, forgetting Portuguese presence in China and its pioneer performance in Modern era, on acquisition and distribution of Chinese commodities to Europe, namely textiles. It is our intention with this study to present a parallel approach of artistic and commercial relations between Portuguese and English with Chinese, in what matters to textile articles they both bought, and to show the importance of Portugal in this matter between the XVIth and XVIIIth centuries.
