Uma fronteira do Império: o sul da América portuguesa na primeira metade do século XVIII

The article examines the ocupation process of the southern boundaries of Portuguese America in the course of the first half of the eighteenth century. Along the reign of D. João V, gained impulse the colonization of this peripherical region of the Portuguese Empire, neighbouring the Spanish possessions of the Rio de la Plata. In this meaning, we will give attention to the most important settlements established in this territory: the Colonia de Sacramento (re-founded in 1715), the town of Laguna (created in 1714) and the region of Rio Grande de São Pedro (colonized in the 1730's).
