On the basis of the documentation of the Portuguese and Spanish Archives and of the 35 000 voyages from The Transatlantic Slave trade : a database we can provide an original regard on the Iberian slave trade for the XVI-XVII centuries. Under certain aspects, this article intends to present new interpretations for the first Portuguese expansion and the slave trade for the Modern time. Iberian traffic, Atlantic traffic and Transatlantic traffic shouldn’t be taken as three distincts circuits but as a part of a global history : the history of the black slave in the society of Old Regime.
