On the issue of the ancient capitanias [= captaincies] of the Azores, one of the main problems concerns the profits obtained by the capitães. Today, in spite of all the research that has been done in the past few decades, this is still a not very well-known subject. However, we can now bring some new information on the gains of the local capitães, namely the lord of Praia, in the island of Terceira, in the years 1533-1537. Our conclusion points out the importance of the wheat's production and of the watermill's monopoly.
