Bentafufa was a muslim who, as governor of the «moors of peace», played a fundamental role in the creation of a short-lived Portuguese protectorate in Morocco in the 16th century. This article traces the main stages in this man’s life as governor, set in a complex world where loyalties, alliances, strategies and interests were at stake.
