The documentary sources found in Portuguese libraries and archives concerning the Portuguese presence in Daman in the 16th century are relatively scarce. Therefore, we thought it relevant to transcribe the Tombo de Damão, a descriptive collection of a large number of manuscripts regarding the revenues of the Portuguese Crown derived from a number of small settlements in the fortress of Daman. The entire codice was compiled by Francisco Pais, the Purveyor of the Casa dos Contos, acting as Comptroller of the India Treasury and the Accountant Diogo Vieira, by order of the viceroy D. Mathias de Albuquerque.
