Opium trafficking was a relevant element in Asian economies, but gradually entered a path of opposition, particularly in the first decades of the 20th century, despite considerable resistances. This article analyses the change in the exploitation of this product in the context in which the decisions taken within the League of Nations obliged Macau to do so. The visit of a committee of this organization showed that it was adapting to the new rules and that it was part of a wider geographical field.
