This article seeks to analyze the literature produced in recent decades on Portuguese decolonization. It aims to address three issues: the concept of decolonization adopted until now in the social sciences; the perspectives that have been developed; and future paths for expanding the field of study of Portuguese decolonization. It will seek to demonstrate that the concept of decolonization applied to the Portuguese case favors a minimalist version and that the adoption of a maximalist view will allow for a qualitative leap in studies on the subject.
