Toxicidade sistémica por anestésicos locais fora do bloco operatório

Os anestésicos locais são amplamente usados na prática clínica dos anestesiologistas e é também frequente o seu uso por médicos não anestesiologistas em locais fora do bloco operatório para procedimentos minimamente invasivos. Uma vez que a toxicidade por anestésicos locais é complicação grave e potencialmente fatal, todos os profissionais de saúde devem reconhecer precocemente sinais e sintomas e iniciar o seu tratamento.
Neste trabalho é relatado um caso de alteração do estado de consciência por toxicidade sistémica por anestésicos locais após infiltração de doses elevadas de lidocaína. O imediato reconhecimento da situação pela equipa de emergência intra-hospitalar, da qual o anestesiologista é muitas vezes parte integrante, é essencial para a atempada administração de emulsão lipídica que pode prevenir consequências fatais.
