Abstract

Guinea-Bissau faces significant challenges in implementing and protecting sexual and reproductive rights. Despite international commitments and some national efforts, various sociocultural, economic and political barriers continue to challenge these rights implementation. This essay explores the current state of sexual and reproductive rights in Guinea-Bissau, examining the main obstacles and potential paths for improvement followed by civil society organizations. It is based on a broad qualitative study, which included 36 interviews with members of the main NGOs and United Nations agencies working in the sector, public health doctors and nurses, and focus groups with Community Health Agents.
