Abstract

The prison is a space for reflection and acceptance of the consequences of crime, assuming responsibility for the facts and encouraging people towards a non-criminal life. To this end, it is interesting that rehabilitation programs are used from an educational perspective that establish or increase external links to motivate change and that a new identity is built based on responsibility and social commitment. The article presented comes from the experience lived in the practices of Social Education in a Spanish penitentiary center. The main objective of this work is to demonstrate the importance of carrying out social-emotional programs in the rehabilitation and social reintegration. To this end, the EMOCION(ARTE) program has been designed and implemented. The methodology used is, mainly, participatory and focused on reflection, dialogue and on the personal experiences of the participants For this we have used as main research techniques, participant observation and interviews and the Adult Emotional Development Questionnaire (Pérez-Escolda, et al., 2010). The main conclusion is that the program has contributed to breaking the prison stigma that identifies emotional demonstration with weakness, developing collective emotional relief and greater intragroup cohesion.
