Abstract

This article aims to present usage dynamics and some of the challenges for universal access and better use of the network by children and adolescents in Brazil. In this sense, are presented and analyzed some of the indicators on Internet access and use by children and adolescents from the ICT Kids Online Brazil and ICT Education surveys, coordinated by the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br). The ICT Kids Online Brazil survey is conducted through face-to-face visits at home. The ICT Education survey is conducted in person, in public and private primary and secondary Brazilian schools, in rural and urban areas. Both surveys are sample, annual and national in scope. Together they present a set of indicators that allow a better understanding of the socioeconomic and cultural ecosystem of which children and adolescents are part of Brazil. These indicators highlight the important role played by actors from different social sectors, especially with regard to public policy making, in securing digital rights as part of the rights of children and youth.
