Resumo

O uso de ecrãs por crianças e adolescentes tem vindo a aumentar nas últimas duas décadas, incluindo o uso de dispositivos móveis e plataformas interativas e sociais.
Embora haja benefícios do uso dos ecrãs, incluindo potencial educativo, existem também preocupações sobre o seu uso excessivo, especialmente em crianças mais novas, durante o período crucial do seu desenvolvimento cerebral.
Dados de estudos nacionais e internacionais revelaram que as medidas de isolamento relacionadas com a pandemia COVID-19 contribuíram para um aumento considerável no tempo de ecrã (TE) em crianças e adolescentes.
Os autores tiveram como objetivo fazer uma revisão acerca da literatura científica sobre o modo como pandemia de COVID-19 alterou o uso dos meios digitais, os riscos associados e o impacto nos diferentes domínios da saúde.
Evidência científica crescente associa o uso excessivo dos media a consequências adversas para saúde, tanto físicas como neurodesenvolvimentais e mentais. O tempo de ecrã (TE) excessivo tem sido associado a efeitos na saúde física, como obesidade, distúrbios do sono, atraso na linguagem, funções executivas, cognição geral e saúde mental, nomeadamente ansiedade e depressão.
Existem recomendações baseadas na evidência para promover hábitos saudáveis ​​de uso dos ecrãs para crianças e suas famílias, a fim de mitigar os seus efeitos adversos.
O aumento do TE em crianças e adolescentes durante a pandemia COVID-19 é uma preocupação de saúde pública e exige intervenções ao nível das políticas de promoção da acessibilidade a espaços ao ar livre para atividades recreativas e físicas que ofereçam alternativas apelativas, contribuindo para o seu desenvolvimento saudável.
