It was developed a study in order to identify the knowledge of nurses about the use of the totally implanted central venous catheter (CVCTI) when they are dealing with a patient in a palliative situation. The present paper aims to identify the knowledge that nurses of several sectors at a health service in a central Hospital of Greater Lisbon have on the totally implanted central venous catheter.
It was carried out a joint study – quantitative, exploratory and descriptive. The data collection was held by a questionnaire to 49 nurses. Most of the respondents do not seem to present a consistent information/training regarding the resource and handling of totally implanted central venous catheter. It was found that there are still many gaps on the knowledge of such devices. Nonetheless, despite the stated results, it was noted the concern about the use of CVCTI by nurses, being indicated the promotion of human dignity as an advantag
